Before you write
Go by height, not age. Under 4'3" takes a size 4; 4'3"–4'6" a size 5; 4'6"–4'9" a size 6; 4'9"–5'0" Harrow; over 5'0" adult short handle. If a player is between sizes, take the smaller one — a bat that is too heavy builds a bottom-hand grip that is hard to unlearn. Send us a height and we will confirm.
English willow is lighter for its size, has a bigger sweet spot and needs knocking in. Kashmir is denser, harder and ready to play straight away, which suits matting and tape-ball cricket. For a player scoring runs on turf, English is worth the money. For a first bat or a club spare, Kashmir is the sensible buy.
Our over ratings are tested, not marketing. The Test 5-Layer is rated 80 overs on turf; the Premier Match 55; the Club Pro Pink 50. Machine-stitched balls run 25 to 35. Abrasive artificial nets will cut all of those numbers by roughly a third — that is the surface, not the ball.
Every English willow bat gets six hours of mallet work and an oil coat before it leaves the workshop. It is match-ready for throwdowns and nets, but give it another two to three hours of gentle work before facing a new hard ball. Kashmir willow bats need no preparation.
